IBAN Structure Turkey

Last reviewed: · Source: ISO 13616 / SWIFT IBAN Registry

Turkey's IBAN has 26 characters in the format TRkk BBBB BRCC CCCC CCCC CCCC CC. After TR and two check digits come a 5-digit bank code, one reserved digit (currently "0", set aside for future branch codes) and the 16-character account number. Turkey is not part of SEPA. Transfers between the euro area and Turkey run over classic SWIFT, so a BIC is required and FX margins apply. The IBAN became mandatory in Turkey in 2010 and applies to accounts held both in Turkish lira and in foreign currency.
